You're not alone. Your off-the-shelf system was probably awesome when you started building your list. But now you want custom features and a lower monthly bill. We get it. That's why we're here!

1. Spin up the server

The Letterman server can run individually, or as a pod (for horizontal scalability). The server handle all sending logic, list management and scheduling. It listens on a public port for webhooks (spam reports), serves public tracking links and webviews of sent emails, and accepts private API connections from your server-side SDK.

2. Choose a backend SDK

Your application integrates with your Letterman server through an SDK / client-library. Remember that the Letterman server runs separately from the rest of your application and exposes itself as a RESTful interface. This means you can integrate it into applications of any type. We currently have client libraries available in Node.js, Python and Rust, as well as frontend widgets for React, Svelte, Vue, Angular, React Native, Objective-C, Swift, Kotlin and Java for Android.

3. Build your application

Letterman is unopinionated about how you build the rest of your application. You can add modules and extensions to Letterman through our plugins interface, or focus on the application outside of Letterman. It's up to you. Letterman just handles the business logic of email newsletter management, and leaves the rest of your application to you.
